MEET SUE

NEW LEADERSHIP DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY

In the past decade, I have been continuing my real estate business and I’ve been very active as a director elected to the North Tahoe Public Utilities District board of directors.

While listening to many buyers and sellers, tenants and homeowners in the area, I have found it informative and educational to be a conduit for local thoughts and ideas and passing on good rebuilding sense to our local water, sewer and parks infrastructures.

I have also been elected by my peers as Tahoe Sierra Board of Realtors President, Realtor of the Year and MLS President. I have volunteered for panels including the Pathways 2007 and Placer County Community Plan Teams. I have worked with the Board of Realtors and local agencies to provide common sense resolutions for home and property owners in the area. Participating in all these ventures allows me the best chance to really listen to what people want in their lives in the Tahoe Truckee areas.

My past is what I build from. Here is a glimpse of my background.

I am a 3rd generation Tahoe resident who grew up on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. From pre-school through high school in Tahoe and Truckee, I learned from local teachers to cherish the lake and mountain communities. After attending college at UC Davis and CSU Chico, I returned to Tahoe with my husband and we raised 3 children here. We had horses and rode the mountain trails, we fixed up old homes and built new homes in this area.

I have always attested to the fact that Tahoe is a most beautiful and rewarding place to live: at least if you like fresh air, fresh water and lovely mountains to play within. But to live here, work can be seasonal and our residents must be versatile and hold down many part time jobs in order to make ends meet. I have always told people “to live here, you need to hold down 35 jobs” to become a “local”. But this pace can be nuts, so I have also noted jestfully after 20 years on this pace, you

will turn from “local” to “loco”!! I guess I can attribute a lot of “on the job experience” to the fact that my husband and I have been worked in many of the Tahoe resort industries.

Over the years, my employment in various occupations have given me expanded knowledge and experience that I use as a resource for decisions I make in our district. I spent several years working in the ski industry in sales, public relations and instruction: both as a teacher and as a program director. I have coached ski racing youth and worked within our local public school district for 18 years teaching water safety programs to every 45 grade student. Summers and falls found me working for the US Forest Service as a timber cruiser and grader, and assistant small sales administration. I worked as a resource instructor, wilderness technician and in campground construction, maintenance and administration.

Tahoe's seasonal and second home economy is tough and I know that all too well. To maintain some income for our family while our children were young, I exchanged day care with other local mothers. In evenings, I worked 18 years at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe. Winemakers' Dinners and high end dining service were my specialty, catering, and special party planning were a part time portion of my work there.

During the late 1980's, I was solicited by 2 brokers because my knowledge of the area was invaluable to them. I obtained my real estate license in 1989 and continued my sales from that time to now. I was able to help with my children in each of their classes in the local schools, and while a board member in the Teacher Parent Organization, I was on the team that envisioned and eventually brought the English Spanish Immersion program to the Kings Beach Elementary School and North Tahoe Middle Schools.

In the past decade, I have been elected to the NTPUD board and been very active as a director. Working as a Realtor allows me the best chance to really listen to what people want in their lives in the Tahoe Truckee areas. That is why I am seeking reelection to the NTPUD Board.
